Three times in recent weeks lions have left the Nairobi National Park and have been seen on the new bypass which is under construction. The first time, a female chose to have her cubs in the army barracks, and was returned unharmed to the park. Most recently, a large male was seen along the main road leading to the international airport. A pedestrian was swatted and suffered a broken shoulder blade, but is recovering. It is being suggested that part of the fence was removed to facilitate road works on the bypass, thus making it easy for the lions to stray.
